The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

I saw the Great Gatsby last night, and I have to say it is spectacular! The visuals were absolutely amazing, and that first scene in 3D was brilliant. Critics (as per usual) swept their critical eyes over this film and instantly decided that because wasn’t isn’t subtle or intellectual enough- that it is a rubbish film. We know that critics are not the public opinion, look at Les Mis! When the stage show came out there wasn’t a single positive review to be found. And look at it now.

Of course, it isn’t going to be like the book. If you are looking for the book but on the screen, just stick to reading it. People have got to stop thinking that just because it was a book before it became a film that it is a film OF the book. It is not! It is a film adaptation of the book, using inspiration and the storyline but not much more. You simple cannot expect the film to be exactly like a book because they are different medias, and you can’t fit the amount of plot you can in a book into a film. The film is about 2 hours 42 minutes anyway and they must have cut out quite a lot.

I really loved the soundtrack and I though it worked really well as it brought perspective for a modern audience and brought it to life. There are some really great moments in that film- not to mention the dresses, and don’t take what the critics say for gospel, its your opinion that counts. Please go and see this film, and enjoy it for what it is 🙂
